据《雅加达邮报》9月28日报道,经过四年推迟,基督教信徒占多数的社区对建造清真寺给予批准后,东努沙登加拉省古邦Kota Raja 地区的Nur Musafir清真寺得以继续建造。

After a four-year delay, the establishment of Nur Musafir Mosque in Kota Raja district, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is set to continue after securing long-awaited approval from the local Christian-majority community.

Construction of the mosque, being built on a 600-square-meter plot of land in Batuplat subdistrict, had been put on hold since 2011, following protest from local residents.

“There was some concern from local residents who claimed that their names and signatures were forged to support the mosque’s establishment. However, after some reconciliation efforts, [we] have finally approved the mosque establishment,” said Yopi Lati, a local Catholic youth leader.

According to a 2006 joint ministerial decree, a new house of worship must have the support of both congregation members and local residents of different faiths. Currently, Muslim residents in Batuplat must travel around 10 kilometers to pray at the nearest mosque.
