The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has said in a newly released report that governments should promote gender equality in employment, broaden access to better jobs and encourage greater investment in education and skills throughout working life if they want to reduce inequality and boost inclusive growth.

Tax and transfer redistribution is also an effective way to reduce inequality, it further says.

The report entitled In It Together: Why Less Inequality Benefits All reveals that in recent decades, the effectiveness of redistribution mechanisms has been weakened in many countries.

“To address this, policies need to ensure that wealthier individuals, but also multinational firms, pay their share of the tax burden,” said the report released on Thursday.

The OECD on Thursday also launched a new interactive web-tool, “Compare your income”, which enables users from different OECD countries to compare perceptions and realities.

Users can obtain compared perception and reality reports by looking at where they fit in their country’s income distribution. The tool is based on the most recent data from the OECD Income Distribution Database.
