RI needs pay close attention to global economic slowdown: Minister
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said on Wednesday that amid its financial sector’s work performance that remained positive, Indonesia was still facing various challenges, including the global economic slowdown.
He said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had revised its global economic growth forecast to 3.1 percent, as stipulated in the World Economic Outlook IMF 2015.
“It declined from its initial forecast of around 5.6 percent at the beginning of January,” said Bambang as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The minister said several major economies, such as China, had also suffered an economic downturn. China’s economy grew by 7.4 percent in 2014 but it was predicted that the country’s economic growth would stand at 6.8 percent this year.
“Although its economy used to grow by more than 10 percent in quite a long period, China’s economic growth forecast to stand in between 6.8 and 7 percent this year is considered to be more reasonable,” said Bambang.
