Cabinet eva luation should focus on economic team: Expert

Indonesia Public Institute (IPI) senior researcher Karyono Wibowo has said President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo must focus his Cabinet eva luation on several ministries under the coordinating economic minister that had a direct impact on people’s fundamental needs.

"The energy and mineral resources minister [Sudirman Said] also needs to be eva luated as he has become the most controversial minister in Jokowi’s Working Cabinet by, among other things, directing Indonesia’s energy sector toward a market mechanism,” he said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Monday.

Karyono said the minister’s policy had quickly led to fluctuations in fuel prices, which had sparked unrest in society.

Karyono said the state enterprises minister [Rini Suwandi] was also among Jokowi’s ministers who had made controversial policies that were diametrically opposed to people’s aspirations. The trade minister [Rachmat Gobel] also stood out among ministers with controversial policies, concerning his policies which had triggered instability and constant jumps in the prices of basic commodities, he added.

"His policy to import basic commodities is also not in line with the principle of economic sovereignty President Jokowi wants to build,” he said.
