“I will prove that I am innocent. I never accepted the money, in fact I never saw the money myself,” Dewi, the sister of South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, said at the KPK headquarters before she was taken to the KPK detention center on Thursday.

Dewi, who is a member of the powerful Yasin Limpo political dynasty in South Sulawesi, was caught red-handed accepting S$177,700 (US$127,000) in bribes from businessman Setiadi Jusuf in Jakarta on Tuesday night.Along with Dewi, who is a member of House Commission VII overseeing energy, the KPK also apprehended Deiyai Mining Agency head Irenius Adi and Dewi’s friends Rinelda Bandaso and Bambang Wahyu Hadi.

All five have been named suspects and have been detained in the bribery case, which is related to the deliberation of state funds for a micro-hydro power plant in Deiyai, Papua, worth hundreds of billions of rupiah.“The project, which is under the supervision of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, will be covered by the 2016 state budget,” acting KPK deputy chairman Johan Budi said on Wednesday.
