雅加达邮报5月13日电 在民主党第四届全国代表大会召开数小时之前，民主党于星期二正式任命现任主席尤多约诺为民主党主席竞选中的唯一主席候选人，为作为民主党的标志性人物和国家前总统的尤多约诺在接下来的五年里再次领导民主党铺平道路。

Dems name SBY sole chairman candidate

A few hours before starting its fourth national congress, the Democratic Party on Tuesday officially named incumbent chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the sole candidate for the party’s leadership race, paving the way for the party icon and former president to lead the party again for the next five years.

Democratic Party deputy chairman Max Sopacua, who is also a member of the congress’ steering committee, said that only Yudhoyono had registered his leadership candidacy with the committee until it closed the official registration period at noon on Tuesday.

“The registration has been closed. Only Pak SBY [has registered], no other candidates,” Max told reporters, referring to the former president as he was commonly known.

Co-founding the Democratic Party in 2001, Yudhoyono took over the party’s leadership from Anas Urbaningrum in 2013 after the latter was named a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Yudhoyono’s uncontested reelection bid is also predictable, as the majority of the party’s local and national executives have declared their support for Yudhoyono’s reelection prior to the congress, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday evening.

Despite their previous pledge to run as contenders for the party's top post, two Democratic Party former lawmakers Gede Pasek Suardika and Marzukie Alie finally decided to drop their plan to challenge Yudhoyono's reelection bid.
