雅加达邮报5月4日电，内政部长贾佐库莫洛周一（5月4日）表示，首轮同时进行的地方选举未能提高预算效率，而提高预算效率是政府考虑在全国范围内同时进行地方选举的重要原因之一。

Govt still has to spend big for regional elections: Minister

Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said on Monday that the first wave of simultaneous local elections failed to promote budget efficiency, which was among the core reasons for making the decision to hold local elections simultaneously throughout the country.

According to Tjahjo, the government spent almost Rp 7 trillion (US$ 538 million) to prepare for 269 elections to take place simultaneously throughout all regions in the country.

“It turns out that we still cannot achieve efficiency, but this is reasonable as it was still the first time for us to hold simultaneous elections,” Tjahjo said.

“I believe that we will be able to decrease the budget as we gain experience in organizing the elections,” he added.

The director general of regional finance at the Home Affairs Ministry, Reydonnyzar Moenek, said that campaign funds were the biggest expense.

He particularly cited the budget allocation for advertising candidates running in the election.

Law No. 8/2015 on local elections mandates the state to fund the campaigns of candidates who contest the race. (ren)(+++)
