The History
In 2013, The Indonesia Research Center was established in Central China Normal University. in 2017, It was renamed “Research Center For China-Indonesia People-to-People Exchange” of Central China Normal University. Based on vibrant multiculturalism and eminent humanities at CCNU, the Center is aimed to promote the people-to-people exchange between China and Indonesia through academic research, scientific cooperation and cultural communication, hoping to make positive contributions in strengthening mutual trust and friendship, removing misconception between the two countries, and boosting the sound development of Sino-Indonesian relations.
Organization of Center
The Center is composed of three organs: Research team, Academic committee and External consultants.
Research team consists of 16 members,including 5 Indonesian and 1 European scholars;
Academic committee has 6 members,Prof. Xu Liping, who comes from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) as its chairman, and 2 Indonesian researchers are included;
Besides, there are 4 Indonesian and 2 Chinese experts are invited to be the consultants of Center.
Main Tasks
I. Scientific Research: To promote sustained and in-depth studies on various aspects of Indonesia and Sino-Indonesian relations.
II. Personnel Training: To offer students analytical skills and language competence for a better understanding of Indonesia and China.
III. Promoting bilateral exchange: To launch culture and people-to-people exchange programs between China and Indonesia.
IV. Social Services: To provide consultations and intellectual support for the related department of Chinese government and the enterprises.
The Objective
The Center’s long-term goals include:
To advance cross-cultural research in the context of cultural understanding;
To consolidate its position as a flagship on Indonesian studies and in Sino-Indonesian academic cooperation;
To build a platform for people-to-people exchange and enrich multi-level, all-dimensional communications between China and Indonesia.
Fruitful Achievements
The Center publishes a Yearly Report on National situation of Indonesia, detailed displaying the political, economic, social and cultural developments of Indonesia in the year. The Center produces a monthly “Indonesia News Monthly Report”, showing the monthly developments in Indonesia. The center established the first professional Indonesia website in China, “Indonesia Research” (http://cistudy.ccnu.edu.cn), updating Indonesian news every day, selecting important research results; the center staff formed WeChat group of Indonesia researchers, which provides the platform for wide exchange by scholars and researchers at home and abroad.
The Center has published numerous academic articles and dozens of reports and books on Indonesian politics, diplomacy, economy, culture and Sino-Indonesian relations, etc. Higher academic reputation and increasing influences could be witnessed during past years after its founding.
Personnel Training
The Center provides various programs for both Chinese and Indonesian students in and out of Center, with the collaboration of many Indonesian partners. From 2017 till now, the Center has organized a series of training projects on Indonesian studies at CCNU, and invited several Indonesian academics to instruct Chinese students, both on expertise and language.
Academic Exchange
Since its founding, the Center has been dedicated to the promotion of academic exchanges and cultural dialogues among scholars and students from Indonesia and China. The Center holds a “China-Indonesia People-To-People Exchange Development Forum” every year, inviting Chinese and Indonesian scholars to discuss how to further promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. To deepen academic exchange and cooperation, CCNU has signed MOUs with Surabaya National University, Jakarta National University and Purwokerto Institute of Technology and Telecommunications, etc.
